Summer Camp: July 8-13, 2019
The Laurel Foundation offers the nations first free resident camp program specifically for transgender /non-binary youth aged 10-17. The program is based on traditional camp programs, yet caters to the unique mental and physical health of youth who are gender non-conforming and transgender youth. The program helps to empower transgender youth in an accepting environment, filled with volunteer transgender role models. For many of the youth, it is the first time they were truly liberated and supported to be who they are.
The program is held in Big Bear Lake California. With 60 youth attending, we have over 35 volunteer trans counselors who all have gone through an extensive interview, background and reference check process. In addition, the volunteers have 3 days of training before they can be a counselor. We also have a full volunteer medical team up at camp to dispense all medications as well as a mental health team on site 24 hours a day.
Programs include: lakefront activities (kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing and tubing), swimming in our pool, high and low ropes, arts and crafts, drama, archery, overnight camping trip, hiking, and more. We offer session workshops that your child can elect to attend on trans rights, sex education and healthy relations etc.
